Special Requirements and Equipment

  • Metrologic ScanPal device - $550
    The ScanPal device must be ordered through Extended Technologies® so that the integration software can be loaded.
  • Serial Port
    If no serial port is available, a Keyspan USB Serial Adapter ($40) is required and may be purchased through Extended Technologies®.

Implementation
Please allow two weeks for implementation and education.

An on-line education session is provided for the salon team. Quick reference guides are also available and are included with the device purchase.

Exporting Counts
When it comes to inventory counts, RIC offers convenience and efficiency. Follow the steps to create an inventory count in SalonBiz®/SpaBiz®, then export it to RIC. Then use RIC to scan the product bar code and enter the quantity. RIC will alert you if a product was previously scanned and ask if you would like to increase the quantity by adding your new count to it, or replace the previous entry.

Importing Counts
After entering all items in the count, place RIC back in the cradle and import the data into SalonBiz®/SpaBiz®. RIC will alert you of items that were not counted.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I upload multiple counts to one device?
Sure. The ScanPal stores up to 50,000 records in its memory. Simply create the counts in SalonBiz®/SpaBiz® then export them to the ScanPal.

What does the message “data not found” indicate?
The barcode that you scanned does not match an item in your inventory. Either the bar code is not linked to the proper product, or the item is not in the inventory database. If it will not scan simply press 9 and enter the item number under the barcode.

Can I enlarge the font size on the ScanPal device?
Yes. Two display font sizes are available. Simply choose settings, select font size then choose large or small.

Can I upload the same count to multiple ScanPals?
Sure. Export the same count to the scanners. The ScanPal stores the last quantity entered in the device as the accurate count. Make sure to break up the count so that only one person is counting a specific domain. Then sync each ScanPal separately.

What if I make a mistake?
Mistakes can always be edited either in the ScanPal before it is synchronized to the software or in SalonBiz®/SpaBiz® before the count is processed.

Can I still perform inventory counts on paper?
Sure. The ScanPal is a tool designed to make the process more convenient and accurate. However, manual counts are still fully functional.
